In 1423 a small gathering place opened in the middle of the political capital of The Netherlands, The Hague. It was open for anybody. Politicians, knights, farmers and locals. Later it mainly became a place for royals and nobleman. After some time it became the ‘living room’ of The Hague.

Rebuilding ‘t Goude Hooft

During its lifetime ‘t Goude Hooft has been rebuild several times. Once in 1660 and in 1939. The club underneath the building carries the name of the first time, Club 1660. The current building dates from 1939 and has been renovated in 2012. During the renovation secret tunnels have been found in the basement. Nobody knows where they are leading to but several of these tunnels have been found over the last decades. It gives the place a sense of mystery. It is not even clear when they were built. They could be as old as 1660. Some say all the tunnels are connected and might even lead to the royal palaces. In 2013 the current owner added 8 luxury suites to the already existing restaurant and bar.

Exclusive suites in The Hague

All the suites are furnished in the same style but all with an unique touch. Instead of using room numbers, the rooms are all named after castles or royal residents from the area. Like ‘Huis ten Bosch’ and ‘Noordeinde’.

The suites are spacious and have all the luxury you need. Some rooms even  include a small kitchen that is equipped with a small fridge, cooking area, dishwasher and luxury tableware. What we found very handy was the big walk-in closet. Not only could we put all our stuff here to keep the room clean but it was also equipped with a brand new trouser press and ironing board.

The one thing that stands out in the suites are the bathrooms. It is completely open so it creates more space and the finish is one of the finest we have seen so far. Golden sink, big rain shower and a Jacuzzi next to a fire place. What more do you want?

In the morning you will wake up with a nice breakfast in your room. Complete and with fresh ingredients. When you are done you can just walk out of your suite and explore The Hague.

The suites of ‘t Goude Hooft are so well equipped that it is one of the few places we have stayed where you could actually stay for a longer period of time. Perfect for the business person that needs to stay The Hague longer and only expects the best or for a romantic getaway.

  • Wow, that looks so cool. When I am in Holland again I will definitely visit. Great article!

  • I love the kitchen. Perfect for a long stay. I would prefer the kitchen instead of more space. Often I struggle to find something to eat and don’t want to lose the time to find something.

  • Wow!! I’d probably go for the extra space. Who needs a kitchen if you have enough money to stay there? You could go out every night or order in! Gorgeous place!
